Pale blossoms sway where the sun is exiled,
fields of asphodel stretching into silence.
The air is heavy with absence,
every breath a remembrance already dissolving.
A river of shadows calls
its surface dark, unbroken, eternal.
The dead bend low,
their lips meeting the black tide,
and all that was once burning
fades to nothing.
Faces blur,
names fall like ash from the tongue,
laughter and sorrow
scatter into the void.
Even love, once defiant,
sinks without a trace.
This is the law of the underworld:
to forget is to exist,
to surrender is to endure.
No chain of memory may cross this gate,
no echo of life may follow.
Thus they wander, hollow and unseen,
souls stripped of fire,
adrift among the endless flowers
forever suspended between dream and death,
between no longer and nevermore.
